I posted several pictures of two old John Deere implements on the Help Identify pages. I would appreciate any help I could receive on information. Both have been in the family since new, and both are extremely old.
The first machine is a Number 537 two row corn lister, the other machine is a 3 row listed corn cultivator.
I believe the lister was originally horse drawn, as well might be the cultivator.
There are no markings on the cultivator except the old style JD logo and a few part numbers.
Thanks for your help!

Jim what you have there is a GO-Dig, well thats what they were called back in the 40's in our Nebr area. Can't really tell how many rows it is but if it was used with the 2 row lister it should only have been 2 row as if you wondered a little with the lister the go dig could take out a row if it was 3 row.
It is set up for throwing OUT, meaning it threw the dirt away from the plant and left a little ditch that could help when flood irrigating and in case of a hard rain helped keep from mudding the plant under. The shields are to keep from covering up the plant as you cultivate.
I see they have the rear shovels set wide, good idea as this will get the weeds on top of the lister ridge and also make it easier to hold the tractor on top when it's time to THROW IN, rather that leave that pointed ridge and then try and hold a ole side steer steel wheel D on, ( boy when they slip off can them front wheels do a job plowing out 2 rows for a few feet and then having to stand all the next day due to a tender butt), we had a 3 row lister and a 3 row go dig, went well together.
Sorry so long winded, but been there done that, just hope I didn't make this clear as mud for you.
Good luck and give yourself many pats on the back on the lister job, it's a beauty. Be sure and email us a pic when you get the other one done
Bob
