When i push in my clutch on my 420 it will sit there and make a squeeking noise. What could be the cause of this and if i have to split the tractor to fix it should i change out the whole clutch assembly.

Had a similar problem on my 430 once, kinda ignored it and the throwout bearing took the fingers off the pressure plate. Only way to really find out is to split it. If this is a U or similar with wide front, if you put a blade or counter weight on the back before splitting it it will almost balance on the back, in fact mine tiped back and I had to let off on the 3 point to get it back down. Not hard to split but much easier if you have a loader or overhead hoist. I usually block the front axle on both sides so tractor doesn't try to lay over one way.

I would guess it would be the throwout bearing. Play with the clutch pendal by pushing it down slowly through the free travel. When you feel the free travel stop and the yolk pushed the throwout bearing against the clutch paws, that is when throwout bearing noise should show up.

If it was me, I would not replace a clutch for the hey of it. I would go by the condition it was in. If you have a two stage clutch, those can be fun until you get the hang of it.

Last time and I hope it is THE LAST TIME I had mine apart, I put a used clutch plate in it. It was in good shape and feels like a new one.

Happy holidays
