I recently bought a MT and am trying to figure out the three point system. I can get it to raise and lower but very slowly and have an auger I want to run on it. Can someone help me figure out how to make it work properly? I have found that the lever on the right raises and lowers but what does the lever on the left do and how do I check the fluid/replace the fluid to bring it up to speed? Thanks for your help!

Chris

I don't know what manual you have right now but here are the manuals that will come in handy. John Deere Model "M" tractors Service Manual SM-2001, Model "M" Series Tractor Parts Catalog PC848, "MT" Tractor Service Manual SM-2002 and the Model "MT" Tractor Operators Manual OMTMT21051. The service manual for the "M" covers stuff used on all the "M" series tractors that was the same ("M" "MT" "MC" "MI") The parts catalog covers all the "M" series tractors.

I take it that these manuals are straight from John Deere?! The one I have I ordered through Binder books and it is a Shop Manual put together by Intertech.

Thanks agagin,

Chris

Yes these are the John Deere manuals. You can get the "M" service manual on a CD for around $40 I see them on the internet all the time. There is also a parts CD that has all the two cylinder tractors on it I have heard that these are very expensive. I did not have very good luck with the IT manuals might just of been my third grade reading skills

4 bar ranch remember to only hook you drawbar lift links (chains) to the outside arms and not to the independent lift arm (left inside). The left inside one is use like jdman(MO) said for controlling implements that are attached to the front of the tractor.

Hey Mike,
Thanks for the follow up! The manual I bought for the MT isn't very clear on how it all works and I appreciate all the help! I hope to get the oil changed and hook her up tomorrow weather permitting. Thanks again,

Chris

To get all books on a MT ,you have to get a book for M and MC for about $100.

Remove the filler cap and see if the oil is foaming, provided it is full, you may have a leak in the suction line, which will cause slow movment, Mine raises in about 5 seconds. The right lever controls the drawbar, and according to the owners manual should raise about ll00 lbs.Suction line leaks are hard to find since no oil comes out, just air going in. The correct fluid is 10w engine oil. The lever on the left is for front mounted equipment and has its own piston and except for the common oil supply is independent from the RH lever. Mt's run warm at least accorrding to the gauge. Some say this is because of the placement of the sendor, and the tractor is not as hot as you think. First place to look for an air leak is under the hood, near the top of the gas tank. Russ

I also have an MT. As mentioned the right left lever works the 2 lift arm setup. The left one has a separate lift and on mine is usually up unless I pull it down. These seem to always return to the up position if you have no weight on them. Slow lift may be due to low oil, there is a check plug on the back of the lift housing, actually should be one of those turn things you open, oil put in under the seat. May also have a bad hydraulic pump or one that is failing. If it is cold you may want to put lighter oil in the lift mechanism. Another option is to hook the extra lift arm on the left to the other one and raise both handles at the same time. They don't have a really fast hydraulic setup and mine at least works better in the summer when the oil is thinner.

Hey there Hayfarmer,

Thanks for your response. I appreciate you help and will check into the oil level and replace it with some hydraulic oil and see what happens.

Have a great day,

Chris

We have two MT's. I think you speaking of the implement lift since the mt's don't have true three point. Ours raise and lower in about 30 sec. using the right touch o matic lever. The left is for the arm that you can see on the left rear of the lift. This is used for other implements and ours don't move either. We have never used them and guessed that they won't moved uless hooked up to some resistance. But I would be suprised that there is a pet cock or something to switch flow to that side. They will run your auger fine. Keep an eye on the temp. however, they don't have waterpumps and depend on the motion of the tractor combined with the temperature difference to circulate the water. Ours both run 200 - 220 degrees consistantly. Watch yours so that it dosn't over heat. Joe
