I'm working on a govener for my A and the gasket on the end cap is extreamly tight. Does any one know of a way to make these fit better? I have heard soaking them in water works but i'm not sure if this is true or a myth.

Thanks
Dave

Dave, yes soaking in hot water will help,, sometimes rolling a large socket on the gasket after soaking will expand it more yet. Even soaking in diesel fuel or mineral sprits will soften it & allow you to work it over the cover lip..

OK, here’s important information.. THAT GSAKET IS NOT JUST A GASKET BUT IS ALSO A FAN GEAR BACKLASH SHIM.. Those governors very seldom require just one gasket (shim) but usually take a few in a stack.. You really need to maintain the original thickness that was removed -- or if going with less thickness, do a complete fan gear backlash & heel set-up..

CAUTION: if you go too thin on that gasket thickness without verifying the fan gear setting’s you will probably tear the governor & fan gears up in short order.. Maybe you already know this but just wanted to be sure…
