Here is the picture of the brackets. The channel one is cast, the 2 square holes line up with the cross holes in the test stand. It has the no. 21 cast in it. It was wired to the stand along with the base mount bracket, 3 floats and the 3/8 spacer plate for long lug/short lug mags. Could you let me know what the no. of that Dir. is for the test stand? The 306 no. was for a plow. Thanks for all your help. If the picture doesnt show I will post it in parts and pieces.

It looks like the adapter for aircraft magnetos. Some of them mounted with 3 or 4 bolts and some were mounted with hold down lugs that held the round flange down. You can see some of the Allen tester used in the JD SM2029 electrical shop manual. It should still be available yet.

Glen,
Thanks for the info - I've never done anything with aircraft magnetos. Do you think the unknown piece would have come with the Allen equipment? I was not aware Deere would have made adapters for servicing aircraft magnetos on their magneto tester.

Duane, It was probably special ordered from the Allen Servicer company or even a aircraft mag company. I doubt JD supplied it with a tester. Since you need to be certified not everyone would work on aircraft mags. I have some Allen info but don't think it shows this adapter. If I find a pic later I'll post it here. The H.G. Makelim mag testers used a similar looking adapter for aircraft mags. Only thing else it might be is an adapter for some type of pumps or the upside down mounting CAT and Continental mags.

Glen,
My Makelim catalogs show lots of magneto adapters, and a testing unit designed for aircraft mags (it has more spark gaps and a different slide-in mounting bracket with 3 holes for the aircraft flange mount), but none look like the bracket in question. My Allen catalogs don't show anything like that either, but I need to look at the owners manual for the unit shown in SM2029. I don't think I would want to get certified for aircraft magnetos - the liability insurance must be a killer.

I'll look some more at old catalogs and see if I can come up with anything.

34gpa,
Thanks for the pix - unfortunately I still don't know what it is. The casting number of 21 is not consistent with Deere's system on the mag tester, and so far I haven't figured out a use for it - do you have any idea?

Dir 106 is printed on the manual I have - unfortunately this manual came from the tractor works - other works (plow, harvester, etc) used the same system and same numbers, and I suspect Deere has long ago given up on this manual. The print is very clear. The contents may be available in one of the "Deere magneto manuals" on eBay, which are pretty cheap. Or I can make you a copy. Your piece just doesn't show up on any parts list I have associated with the magneto tester.
