I just recently checked the compression of my 1944 A and i found that one side has 60 pounds and the other side has 70. Would it be worth it to take it apart to get the other piston up to compression?

Thanks
Dave

In my opinion it would not be worth it even though your variance is barely(?) outside the 10% rule of thumb for healthy engines.

1) I doubt very much that you could notice powerwise or operationally if both were at 70 psi VS the 60/70 situation that you find yourself in now.

2) An overhaul could cost easily a thousand dollars if you bought new pistions/rings and had the block bored for the new pistions with the head resurfaced and valve work done. All of which is what will be recommended by any mechanic in the business as a starting point.

3) The situation will return all too fast where one side has more compression than the other. It's the nature of the beast to start with unless you have dual carburation.

Unless you have dreams of bigger pistons and more power or other equally valid reasons for spending money like that, consider it not broken and don't fix it either.
