I'm restoring a modle 60 JD. I found rear tire size to be 11x38, is this correct? Also is the correct replacement 12.4x38?

Is this going t be a show and parade tractor with close attention to details? Or a mostly working tractor. The 15.5x38 are about the same height as a 13.6x38 as they have short sidewalls. A 14.9x38 looks a lot bigger beside either of those. 12.4x38 look short on the back and the tractor front looks too high.

I would put tires on it that it SHOULD have had...15.5x38 on 14" rims...

They are the perfect size for the "60".. If there had been tires larger than 13x38 at the time they were made, they would have used larger tires on the 60... They had to reserve the "Largest"(13x38) tires for the "70"...!! But-then, I Use my tractors...do what YOU want.!!

60s came with 12-38 mostly which is now known as 13.6-38. 12.4-38 is the correct replacement for the 11-38, but that is the most common size for a model 50 tractor and would be a bit small for a 60.

11x38 is the rim width and diameter. 12.4x38 is the tread width and rim diameter. Usually both measurements are posted on the tractor tire (rears)----- ----- ----- ----- -Just went out and looked at my 1946 long hood "A" and only the 12.4x38 is posted (GOOD YEAR) not the 11x38 but, on my 1954 all fuel "50" both sizes are posted (PENSYLVANIA FARMER) --Walt--

If it was my tractor I"d go to the tractor sales AD"s & look at the other tractors it"s size sometimes they put tire sizes in the ads this way you can judge for your self how you want YOUR tractor to look.My sugestion would be trade for a set of 12x38"s Rims and go with the13.6x38"s they"ll give you the traction you need & not look like a pulling tractor with oversized tires on it

Jerry , if you are restoring the tractor to original stay to the same tire size which is 13.6 X 38 ( replacement for the old 12 X 38 ) in 4 or 6 ply, similar size as what the 620 and 630 general purpose tractors came from the factory with. If you go up one or two sizes in rubber the rim widths should be increased to obtain the optimum tread/ ground contact. Ellis
