I am 14 (almost 15)and have just got my first JD 530. I have been reading Green Mag. for almost five years and have been looking at this forum for a little while. I now could use some more specific information than what I have gotten so far. It took what seemed like a never ending number of lawn mowing jobs, and a very kind, generous gentleman farmer friend of my Granddad's for me to get started.
What I am saying, is that money IS an object to me and not always in unlimited suppy.
SO... To my questions.
Where are the best places to buy bearings, seals, seat cusions, seat rubbers, gen./starter parts, paint, etc? In other words...I need a good start in the right direction.
The JD dealer in central Illinois is friendly and helpful enough. Its just that visiting him too much will lengthen the restoration process.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Try A&W Bearings, (awbearings.com) They'll have any bearings and seals you'll need. NAPA wanted $21 for one I needed, same bearing at A&W was less than $13. (Timken bearing, not a cheap knockoff)

Jeff, Mike and Al gave good information. Just wanted to say the 530 is one of the higher priced two cylinders so do it right and IF you do sell it you should do OK with the price you get. Most people wish they still had there first tractor.

You don't say what goals are. Nor if everything is working. Do you want to fix up to sell? Or fix up to show, or to fix up to pull with, or to fix up tp have a working tractor? Do you plan on keeping the tractor till you can pass it your kids? I would start with the stuff that makes it run. And then run it, so you know everything is working O.K. Run it for even up to a year and by that time you will know what you have and what needs to be done and where all the leaks are. While doing that, stock pile the "make it look pretty" stuff. The last thing you want to do is put a paint job on it only to find out you have to tear it down to fix something. Two things in your post jump out at me. One you used the word hobby and your age. Many of a young person starts with a hobby and then comes collage, married, kids, a move half way across the country and the hobby has to take a back seat. Take your time. At your age you have plenty of time. Do it right so you only have to do it once. If money becomes tight, Walk away from it till you can get back to it to do it rigth. You don't need to rush. You don't need that tractor to feed cows tomarrow. I was about your age when I bought my first JD. But my goal was to put together a line of machinery to go farming with. Most of the stuff stayed in storage while I did a hitch with Uncle Sam and went to college. Everytime I went home, I would wheel/deal and trade. Took 15 years before I used the stuff on land we owned. First get the ops manual and the shop manual. The look up the word PATIENCE in Websters dictionary and write it down on paper and then put that paper above your toolbox.

Jeff, welcome aboard. I know what you mean about an endless supply of money when visiting the JD dealer. For bearings, seals, battery cables and such you can try the NAPA dealer. You'll probably have to take your old ones so he can measure and match them up. I use a local starter/alternator service to re do my generators and starters. Some of the restoration supply places are less expensive for seats and speciality parts. When you get to specifics let us know and we can help.

Thanks to all for the information.
The tractor was pulled out of a fence row...not many of those left around here. It does not run. My intentions are to take every nut and bolt off and rebuild the thing from the bottom up, as much for and education as to rebuild the tractor. But, as you say, there is a whole lot of life to come, and who knows how it will all end up.
I was just trying to find the GOOD places to get quality parts so I wouldn't have to spend the money to do it again.
Thanks to all.
