Depends on the engine. Gas gets a low price, diesel a high price. There is a great deal of difference in fuel consumption. But until you run 100 or 200 hours a year, the difference in price will pay for gasoline for the gas engine for 15 years or so.

Before purchasing a 33 to 41 year old 4020. It never hurts to visit your Deere dealer and price out an identicaly equiped 6603. Mother Deere really is making a new "4020" again. Does more work on less fuel too.

Jimbo: Here is pic of 1968 4020 I bought last summer (Southern Illinois) for $8,200. It is a syncrommesh with good rubber, twin remotes, and a recent paint job. Previous owner has just used it to mow 60 acres or so of CRP ground for the past several years. Said he had never done any major repairs for the last 17 years he had owned the tractor. I baled several round bales with it last summer with no apparent problems. I had looked for quite a while and could not find anything in near as good as shape as this rig for the money in southern Illinois. Most were pretty battered for more bucks. I've also got a 4010 I have had for 30 years....if the 4020 gives half as good as service as the 4010 has I will be satisfied. Hope this helps!

I think you did very well. Just saw one go for $15000 at an auction in upstate NY yesterday. Pretty much the same condition.

Thanks alot for the picture, always good to hear something good about the 4010.I bought my great-grandfathers 4010 this past year,he owned two my dad bought one a few years back and sold it to some tractor pullers,i still have not forgiven him for that. I purchased his last one and there is no amount of money that could get it away from me.I'm only 30 years old and JD makes good tractors, but they will be hard pressed to top the 10 and 20 series tractors.
