My Father needs to find a shop manual and or parts manual for a John Deere 3020. He has ask me to look for them and I am not having much luck. He does not want a I&T manual because he believes that it won't go into as much detail as the original one will. Can anyone help me with this quest??

Thanks in advance for any help you may have.
Jodie

Like Mike said you will want the SM2038 to cover most of the 3010 or 3020. JD had a publications manual out and don't know if they still do but dealers use to have them and would give them to you. It shows also a TM1005 for 3020 row crop standard 123000-149999 and row crop standard (150000- ). You can get them from your JD dealer or direct from 1-800-522-7448 or check at JDPARTS also for prices. Like some of the earlier posts on here told you can add CD to the end of the manual numbers to price the manual on CD also. The shop and parts manuals cost a lot less on CD. Some of the paper copies you buy now aren't that great and just copies of an original. If you find some on ebay ask the seller questions about if it is original and can you return it if not satisfied or don't bid on it. Lots of fakes and copies out there. Get what you want and will be happy with. There were several different operators manuals and would need the serial number to tell which one you need on it. Also was a seperate tech manual for the high crop.

Jodie, if your tractor is an early 3020 under the serial number Gerald listed the book you want from Deere will be a Service Manual for the "3000" series tractors and will cover both 3010 and early series 3020's. The number of the book is SM 2038. Hope this helps. Mike

I found the original shop manual for my 4020 on epay. You have to be careful. I know that the manual for the 4010 and early 4020 is totally different from the late 4020 and I presume that is the case for the 3020. The change was at serial number 122999/123000, 122999 being the last of the early version and 123000 being the first of the new version. Many parts don't interchange.

I find the parts catalog is also super handy for working out the orientation and order of assembly off parts.

odered a origional service manual from JD for my early model 3020 about 10 years ago. It took em a few days to get it, and it was expensive. It wasn't just a a photocopy, it was a real book. On the front it says 3000 Seies Tractors. Lower left corner on the front it says John Deere Tractor Works, SM-2038. (litho in USA). First printed in March of 67. 796 pages. In addition it's got holes in it to put it in a big ringed binder for additional protection. The writing and drawings are crisp and clear. The cover is yellow with a some green. I rebuilt my tractor bolt by bolt down to the last detail with it, including the motor. 1964 3020 diesel. It was pretty expensive when I ordered it but it has been invaluable. I can't see where I would have wanted or needed anything different. Combine it with the JD parts website to get part numbers, and prices, and there's not very much on this dang tractor that isn't covered.

Mine is dirty, a bit greasy, and just a little bit tattered but I can take it out to where I'm working on my tractor unlike a computer disk.

I buy all my manuals on CD. On the contrary, if you print the section that you need, you can take it anywhere and when it gets all greased up you just toss it. Also, when printed from the CD, you don't have to fight the book to stay open to the page that you need.
