Ran across a 54 70 with lp tricycle front. I'm not to familer with the number models. he wants 2800 and comes with a brush hog. i called and he said everything worked haven't got to hear it run yet. tires looked good. it has 3 point i assume those came from the factory with 3 point. anyway is this a good price for the tractor? thanks

Overall, I'd say the 70 is a very good tractor and that price seems fair, depending on condition. One drawback to the 70 is it's higher speed low gear and reverse. Low gear in the Model 70 is 2.5 mph compared a model 60's 1.5 mph.

Jim, if the tractor is in good shape and the brush hog is in good shape it is a fair price, maybe even good price. Most 70s without 3-point and no brush hog seem to go for $2200 to $3000. Have seen asking price higher but don't know if they brought it or not. It would not have come with a factory 3-point but there are many that can be put on the 70. The 70 is a very good tractor. Wish I had one.

JDBert, the 800 series 3 point was a John Deere 3 point that was a Dealer installed option but was not a factory option. You could not order the tractor with the 800 hitch on it. 6 one way, half dozen another I guess.

So was it a dealer installed option on the 50 and 60's as well?

Yes, the first "factory" 3-point was on the 20 series tractors.
