Engine idling too high on JD A

I'm still trying to adjust the governor on my 35 JD A. I'm wondering if the problem is with the governor weights. The tractor is in the slow idle position and whenever I barely bump and I mean barely touching the throttle, it revs up way to high but the linkage rod has barely moved. Any helpful suggestions?

Sometimes there is so much slack in all the linkages that one has to toss the 'half hole' advice of the manual out the window and adjust the linkage to drop right in the carburator hole. That's what I had to do with mine that had the same symptoms you do, I had just gone thru the governor so that was not the problem.

I didn't like the way the throttle wouldn't really open up until the engine was about to die though. I discovered that I had 1 inch of governor arm movement and one inch of throttle plate movement too. I decided to extend the governor rod way on out to the distributor where I had 2 inches of arm movement and just a little work with it a couple of months ago indicates that this is way it should have been made from the begining. Just idleing around hooking up equipment and moving same has the governor opening right up when needed but also keeps it idleing slowly when no load at all is on it. Can't wait to get her killing weeds this summer and having the throttle open fully while the engine still has some useful speed to it.

I had a A that was doing about the same way your talking about and after checking the governor I found a bearing down in the governor, replaced it and that fixxed the problem
