Thanks to Jim n Gerald for their responses. Just wanted to say I got her pumpin strong till the cows came home. Its a Dresser Series 300 2 Cylinder V 2 Stage unit I bought for near nuttin at an auction. I found inside those removeable valve body cylinders on top of each head were what I would describe as poppet and spring valves NOT reeds, but what do I know. Anywho with great trepidation (I always wanted to use that word) I removed the valve bodies on each head just knowing springs n balls n valves were gonna fly out everywhere n shoot my eye out and be lost BUT TO MY PLEASANT SURPRISE things were all carboned up badly which was the cause of inoperative valves. On the discharge of the high pressure piston the valves lil side holes were completely carboned up shut and the coil spring under the valve that was supposed to exert opening pressure was compressed total down (wasnt acting like a compression spring any longer). I cleaned it up and sprung/bent it outward/open so it acted as a compression spring again,,,,, ,cleaned n polished n wire brushed and de carbonized everything I could find, (including what I call valve cylinders???) so things were carbon free n worked smooth again,,,,, ,,,,,then I fired her up and sprayed PB Blaster and WD 40 and other fluids into the inlet air intake (which was now sucking instead of blowing lol) AND NOW SHE PUMPS GREAT till who tied the pup.

Only last question is I bought a new Load Genie Combination head pressure unloader and check valve, which is supposed to let pressure from the compressor flow into the receiver tank and then when the pump stops act as a check valve so the receivers pressurized stored air dont bleed back into the compressor, plus unload the head for a non pressurized retsart BUT IT DONT FREAKIN WORK (YES its on the right direction). When the pump is pumping all the presure is discharging back out the lil side bleed hole instead of going into the receiver as it should????? ? HOWS COME????? Maybe theres a certain CFM flow rate I'm not meeting or maybe it will srart working after it runs a while and some back pressure develops in the tank??? I didnt let it run long cuz she was discharging rapidly out the lil side bleed hole. I removed it n used an old brass inline check valve to test her n I have her set to shut off at 175 PSI and kick back on at 135 n she pumps like a champ.

Anyone know anything aobut those load genies???? or have an idea why mines not working or if it will had I let her run a while???

Ol John T

That little bleed hole is supposed to be piped to the centrifugal unloader on the compresser. I'm not real familiar with your compressor, but it may not unload this way. When the compressor shuts down, after it has reached the set high pressure, do you hear air bleeding off? You should, it should bleed off the pressure from the discharge line. If not you have to fix it, otherwise, you will kill the motor. The centrifugal unloader should be off on the end of the crankshaft. you could probably take it apart and clean it. It has a couple of flyweights, that control a needle type valve. Good luck, Jack

I think John T is talking about this type of "load genie" unloading valve...

Link

These do not have a provision to connect to centrifugal unloader or unloader on pressure switch.

John, I was not pleased with the one I used on a small single cylinder compressor. The check valve pulsed with the compressor piston going up and down and it bled off most of the air to atmosphere instead of filling the tank.

On your big compressor I would use the centrifugal unloader if equipped or the unloader on the pressure switch if equipped. I would not know how your compressor had originally or if someone changed something. Some of those can be setup as constant run or start/stop run cycles.
Good luck

Yep, for now I just used an older in line brass check valve and it works great, so Im not gonna fool, with that dern so called Load Genie. It is indeed the kind you posted but Im just gonna hang it on the shelf for now.
