Hi,

I just purchased a JD 300 industrial tractor loader backhoe, and the hydraulics aren't working for the loader or hoe. The hoe tries, but is very weak, like there is an obstruction somewhere. The loader doesn't even seem to try...I'm guessing it's too heavy or demands too much pressure. I changed the canister filter, and looked at hoses, etc. Only thing I found is that the tank above the front pump has a 5/8" or 3/4" 90 degree hose that collapses when the tractor is running. I pulled the hose off and briefly ran the tractor, and made quite a mess.....rust protection I kept telling myself.

I read in a thread (that I can't find anymore)that JD makes a "better" hose to replace it. It looks like someone used heater hose.

Also, there is a small flare fitting on the port on top of the hydraulic tank that someone capped off....creative engineering I'm guessing. Anyone know where it goes?

I broke a fitting of some kind on top of the pump that looked like a bleeder....oops. Anyone know what it's for? That is an impressively sized pump!

Lastly, I read in an old thread that there is a hydraulic fluid screen near the brake pedal box, but I can't find it. There was a Y that 3 big hoses went into behind the brake box, and I pulled the spring loaded thingie out, and it looked fine.

There is plenty of fluid in the case, I checked the dipstick and it is in the acceptable range.

Any help/suggestions appreciated.

John

Oh lordy, don't know if we can do this but here goes.. Place a gauge in the transmission gauge port on the back cover of the transmission reverser control valve. If memory serves correctly that should read approx.135 lbs. Look for a wide pressure fluxuation between idle speed and wide open. If there is a wide fluxuation look for a chip of crap stuck in the filter relief valve. This valve is behind a plug in the side of transmission case directly above the vertical trans filter. You will need to remove the filter to gain access to the valve. Pull the valve out the side of trans case and carefully look at the valve. You might need to pry the valve out with a screw driver from the filter cavity.look very closely at the valve. If the poppit inside isn't seated all the way down, look for a piece of metal that might be holding it open. It won't take much to hold that poppit off its seat and allow transmission oil to go back to sump.Try that first and let us know what you find. We'll get back with other suggestions. The last 410 backhoe I worked on had such a little piece ofmetal stuck in the valve, you wouldn't think it could cause this.. The reason we start here is: transmission oil charges the hydraulic pump...Roy

Thanks Roy,

I'll stop at AutoZone and get a pressure tester tomorrow as I don't have one....never needed it before. Go figure!

You might need to get a Deere Tech manual for your machine to fully understand the machine. It's not a simple hydraulic system. A Tech manual and parts manual will assist you in figuring out problems with your machine, and see in what sequence parts are assembled in the machine. As always we are here to help with problems..Roy
