Im looking for a set of rear wheels for my 38 A. During the removal process last weekend, both wheels cracked and split at the hubs when we tried to push the wedges off, even using a gear puller as well as using the hub bolts screwed in to push them off. I may be able to find someone to weld the cast, but am looking to also to see if its feasible to think I can buy or trade some wheels somewhere. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Hey there -- My first question is how bad a break you have in those hubs. Am I right in assuming the cone and hub are finally separated? Did you manage to get the cones off the axles? In my travels, I have seen some of those wheel hubs repaired by forming a ring out of 3/4" diameter cold rolled steel rod to swedge fit over the hub, and then braze or spot-weld it in place. This ring has to be made with some degree of precision, and a swedge fit is a must! Whereas I understand that your break is through the entire hub, you would apply such a ring on the outside and on the inside as well.

You may not like the looks of that kind of a fix, but it was part of the American Ag Scene in days gone by, and when painted, it don't stand out that much.

One long-shot call you might make is to Jim Strump at Strump's Dump (308) 497-2211 as a source for some wheels -- in the middle of Nebraska! (PatB)

I am located in north central Indiana, and I have some wheels if you want to go that way. DickD
