I have a 4030 that I recently swapped the engine out of for a rebuilt one. That all went fine and the engine runs great. My problem is that when I put the tractor back together, the clutch won"t work. I"ve opened it up and checked for alignment and clearance, and everything looks right, but then when it"s re attached it seems to be too tight. It"s the same clutch and flywheel as was on the old engine. All other parts work, like the hydarualics for the 3 point, and power steering. I"ve checked for flow at the clutch port and there"s plenty. Any ideas???

Sir, When you say it is to tight I take it as the clutch is engaged or dragging. If this is the case I would suspect that when you removed and re-installed the clutch assembly from the old engine to the reman engine that you may not have blocked the clutch fingers down during removal to keep clutch disk from falling out of place within the assembly and now one of the disk are pinched between the clutch drive hub and a pressure plate within the assembly , If this is the case the clutch assembly will have to be disassembled corrected and adjusted to correct your problem. If disk got pinched and shows any kind of damage replace it. Good Luck, DW

Could this happen even though I am able to reinstall the clutch assembly over the three square studs on the flywheel??

It appears that the PTO clutch is engaged or dragging, as it is on when I start the tractor and moving the lever to the on position (which I am able to do) doesn't seem to change it.

The transmission is in neutral and park when its apart. I reassemble, start the engine and I am able to shift the range shifter (A,b,c,d, and park), but the inside shifter (1,2,3,4)won't move from the neutral position. It will grind a bit if I pull on it hard, and I can get it to roll forward if I pull on the indside lever hard enough, but i think that's just the hydraulics doing their thing.

What does "doesn't work" mean? That may be obvious to you, but kinda ambiguous to the rest of us.

Does it not engage, or does it not release?????
