I am having a hard time to find some new gauges for and unstyled g that are original looking. i just bought a set from detwiler, but they are a piece of junk, the water temp leaks out of the cord and the oil pressure is not reading right, and they are not correct looking. Thanks

E-bay has them listed on a regular basis also under the John Deere heading, some new, some used, and at times reasonably priced.

40JDG,
If your original gauges still function but look bad, there is a fellow (Jerry Trcka) restoring gauges. I saw his display at the LeSueur, MN swap meet and the restored gauges looked fine - complete with glass lens. Travis Jorde makes his face decals, and I had not realized how many different gauge faces JD made over the years for the various models.

email jmtrcka@centurytel.net, or call 715-635-8629 for more info. I have not had him do any work (haven't needed any) and am just passing along info FWIW.

I do not have the right gauges, one was an IH, and the other was a black face off of like a 60.

I don't think they have to be the correct gauges for your tractor, since he takes them apart and puts a new decal in it, depending on the tractor model and year. There may be details regarding the gauge can shape which is different among tractor makers, but I suspect gauges were all aftersourced by the tractor manufacturers and may be very similar. The main thing seems to be that they work - ie, register some oil pressure (check with a little air from an air compressor), or stick the temperature sensor in some hot water and see if the gauge registers.

Some oil pressure gauges were designed with different max pressures, so I guess that would be an issue. I would suspect he checks working gauges to determine the pressure range.
