Help setting up a model 127 plow?

I recently bought a JD 2 bottom plow with a number on it that says "127". I am having a terrible time trying to get it to plow properly. I polished up the rusted moldboards and shares. The lead share plows a good furrow and really flips the dirt over, the back share on the other hand, hardly gets into the dirt at all. When I drop the plow further (its a 3pt hitch), the back moldboard plugs up with dirt. I obviously have something set up wrong. Can anyone help me with a picture or better description of how to set it up? Is there a manual out there?

Those are beam numbers, not model numbers. Does it have cast curved beams or beams bade out os flat bar stock? Tail wheel or not? I am not aware of any with the curved beams that were not converted pull type plows but they could be done so a novice at plows would not realize it had been done, Flat bar stock beam could be a 415 for 40-420 series or 810 that is a heavier plow. Does it have the blade (throwaway) shares or the blacksmith sharpen shares? The only plows that had beam no. stamped in that I know of are the cast beam. And John Deere's first 3 point was in 53 on the 40 model tractor

Maybe just need more fore and aft adjustment and leveling or one may be wore more. I don't find anything listed with JD for manuals on a 127 plow? Is that a decal number or what? Have a manual on the F110 and F120 series integral 3 point plows. Those have a square tube beam of two channels welded together across the top frame. The F120 series has safety trip standards and was made in 2 to 5 bottoms. Also manuals listed for a F125 series integral mount. Try your dealer and see if they can find anything on a manual for it.

Thanks Glen....I have no idea what I have. I was at the JD dealership today and they also said that there was no such thing. Looking through all the old manuals, I wasn't able to see it...what gives. It is for sure a JD because the full name is stamped on top of the frame. Then there is a number 127 stamped after that. It is a small 3pt 2 bottom. I have done numerous searches also...it can't be THAT old...I mean it has to be since they started making 3pt hitch tractors in the 40's.

There are several JD plow pics on Implement Photos gallery too here you might want to look at. I'll try to put one of the F120 series 2 bottom on there.

I don't know John? I did a search on JD site and in manual listing and looked through my collection of manuals and saw nothing listed like it. Does it have the square tubing across the top of frame I asked about? If so I can scan you a pic of the F120 series from manual I have. Is it a factory made 3 point? There was also a 120 series drawn plow. Maybe that is a serial number? See if there are any part numbers on frame pieces or beams.

Glen...I just looked at your photo of the 120 series and that is definately not the plow. Like I said, I will post a pic on Monday.

Thanks for your interest Glen. There are a few parts numbers here and there. One thing I noticed last night was that both arms that the moldboards connect to had different numbers. One has the aforementioned 127 and the other has 126. It is indeed a factory model I am pretty sure. On the weekend, I will take a picture and post it. I would really appreciate your help in trying to identify it. By the way...I plowed last night! I re-set everything back to the way it was and really polished the heck out of the shares and boards and it worked really well! Had I simply polished the plowing surfaces in the first place, I would have avoided all the messing around. Thanks for the help.

John, I did a search on implement photos before posting that and just go there and do a search typing in John Deere Plow or JD Plow and several more come up to look at. Green Magazine also did a series of extensive stories and ID of many plows in several past issues. I just have several plow operators manuals from a old JD dealer auction to look thru and the JD publications catalogs that list manuals. Sometimes you can get the search to work at the JD site and it will tell you what a part number fits. I'm sure someone can identify it when you get a pic on here.
