1934 Both are all fuel carburetors. I'm pretty sure the choke and throttle plate diameters are the same but the venturi diameter is 1/8 of an inch less on the 18. Lynn

The DLTX-18 was put on the JD A serial # 410000-487999 and the DLTX-53 on JD A # 499000-583999.

Thank you Glen for your prompt reply. I am aware of the information you passed on to me. I still would like to know the differance in the two, as I have a purchase hanging on the wire.

Both should run fine on an A since they were both made for an A. I'm 15 mi. away from my books so I'm going to make a guess and say the one for earlier ser.# would be a hand choke only and the later ser.# tractors would have the choke lever for a rod to fit into for the electric start models.

Both are called all fuel carburetors. All I know is the chart in JD carb book shows the DLTX -18 has S2183A load nozzle and "C" economizer plug which was more for all fuel or distillate fuels. DLTX-53 has different load nozzle 47-193 and "E" economizer plug which is the same ones as in DLTX-71 gasoline carburetor use on #58400 and later. Sometimes you won't find that though and a early carb may have the load nozzle changed to the later ones for gasoline. The later DLTX carbs for any of the letter series with the gasoline load nozzles in them will run better on your tractor if the linkages are the same allowing it to work.
