I just purchased a John Deere "H" It needs some carburetor work I believe, at least I need one of the long needle valves, it is the one on the outside side of the carb. The threads broke off while I was trying to adjust it, so I will need some soures on where to purchase one of them. Also I am looking for some picutres of the H with the whole culivator system that I have which will show it all attached to the tractor. Thanks in advance for any advise or help. John

Years ago I had a '45 H and had the 2 row handlift springtooth cultivator set to mount on it. The cultivator was complete with 2 teeth on each of the outer gangs, 3 teeth on the left inner gang and 2 teeth on the right inner gang. The two gangs that went behind the rear wheels had two teeth each. The unit was pretty complete having the shields and only missing one set of the strut rods that went from the outer front frames to the center pedestal of the tractor. I used the supplied strut rod set in the upper diagonal position that supported the weight of the front gangs by linking the upper holed supports on the pedestal to the outer ends of the gang frames and never needed the missing rods because the inner flanges on the frames fastened to the tractor front frames quite securely. I cultivated a lot of acres of small corn and soybeans with this outfit, but because the H didn't "have the oats" to push the cultivator in third gear at the depth I wanted to run it, I used a bigger 4 row cultivator on my Farmall Super M to cultivate the crops when they got bigger. If you had the time it was a real joy to cultivate with the H and 2 row unit, you could see and handle the unit to really "hoe the crops" closely when the plants were small. The H never used much fuel...less than 1 gallon an hour. The handlift wasn't too hard to operate and I was able to raise and lower the cultivator at the headlands without slowing down the tractor using the individual brakes and a spinner knob on the steering wheel....and a strong right arm.

John -- You can find some pictures of an "H" with a two-row cultivator @ www.jdhpubs.com -- and when you go there, check the photo gallery. There are a number of pix -- not that good in quality, but should do okay.

On your carb, Robert Beaver is one of the best in the country on DLTX carb. He is out of pocket right now, so unless you know just what you need, you will have to wait another 10 days or so to catch him home. Be patient. The wait is worth it. Also, I am working on special carburetor project for the "H" tractor to post on the website (above) and that should be ready in a couple weeks as well. Check in on the site now and then for updates under the page heading, PROBLEM - SOLUTION GALLERY.

Yeah Trumpy -- 'Always had a time of it trying to get someone else to take pictures -- plus those were the days before digital cameras, and the ones we had left much to be desired.

Hey! Flash! I just realized that I have some JD "H" promotional literature with cultivator pix in it that I can make available some time tomorrow afternoon for anyone who wants them enough to send me their e-mail address -- and to send it to me, go back to my site www.jdhpubs.com and press the "contact me" button. The pages show the model H-202, H-208, H-214, H-216, & H-218 cultivator parts -- sufficient to tell how hey connect to the tractor.

John:

Robert's Carburetor repair has both the idle and load needles available through their web site for around $20 each.

Sorry I don't have a photo of the cultivators installed on an "H", but it is pretty simple. The left and right halves bolt on the frame near the front (you'll see the holes that match your mounting cleats) and the braces, upper and lower, go to the mounting holes on the front of the pedestal. The rears bolt on the rear of the axle housing on the mounting studs and are used to cover the wheel tracks. If you have manual lift, those levers mount as I recall on the front side of the axle housings.

Here's Robert's link:
