I put an alternator on one of our 510's. It was a smaller unit off a japanese engine, I can't remember the make off hand. A GM style alternator is too big to mount without cutting the sheet metal. The unit I installed was a 3 wire. One was battery, one was for the charging light (that originally went to the regulator) and the third was keyed power to excite the coils of the alternator. I used a Mutimeter to find a circuit at the fuse box that turned on with the key. The bottom of the fuse holder had an existing male spade teminal. Made a wire with a female spade and ran it from the fuse to the alternator. Works great.
