I have a crankshaft that has a loose flywheel and have discovered I have a lot of slop in the main bearings as well. Should I try to find a replacement crankshaft or re-machine the one I have? How hard is it to find replacement mains and oil seals? I do realize there are removable shims and will see what that does for me. I just get the sense that it is all going to have to be repaired or replaced.

I don't know where you are located but if you can find a donor tractor or parts it's easier to just use parts from it. Not fun to change that heavy crank out but done it a few times. I probably have some good cranks and flywheels but you may be too far away from them. Lots of parts for them in the plains areas. Yes, the main bearings can be shimmed up and you can face off a little of the seal collar and back of flywheel for a tighter fit but it may not work if it has run that way too long. Never have put in new main bearings and don't know if anyone has them. We always found enough donor parts for the Ds.
