What tractors did the V4 version of the pony motors come on? Was it the 720/820, or were they also used on some of the others? Are they interchangeable? In other words, can I replace a two-cylinder with a four or vice-versa? Anybody have a stash of parts for these? I need rockers, pushrods, and connecting rods. Thanks!

Ebb...the V-4 pony engine was first used on the 70 Diesels in 1955. They were "improved" when the black dash 720's were introduced (1958). If your pony engine has a serial number tag on it.. it is the redesigned version. The pushrods are different depending on what pony engine you have. So, the 70,720,730,80,820,830's used the V-4 basic engine but with different configurations of air cleaners, water pumps, intake manifolds, gas shut off devices and transmaissions.

I have been advised on here before that the transmissions of a 70/720 pony do not match that of an 80/820/830 pony also. And I do believe that it was stated that the transmissions could not be swapped to make one work for the other, but that may be something for an expert to advise. Engine parts could however be swapped, they are the same except the tranny mount.

hope that helps somewhat

I believe the V4 pony came out with the numbered diesels. That would be 80,70,820,720,830,730. The R had a two cylinder starting engine and I doubt that it could be easily replaced with a V4. I can't help you with the parts, sorry.
