Ive always gotten the points for wico c mags from Standard mag in Chicago for the past 15 years or so, but I have noticed in the last year that the contacts never seem to line up, differnt height, stationary pt bent at wrong angle or twisted a little.Where are you other builders getting them? or are you just making do also? Thanks

If you check the condenser capacity they are all over place. When I complained he said my tester was off because no else complained.I must have 2 of them off then.I have gone to name brand automotive where I can. But I guess we are lucky we can still get some parts. Earl

Poor points have been on the market for years.Lot of failures on new condensers,Test them on an rc bridge. The last mexico condenser I tested had the shadow on the eye tube fluttering at 100 volts.Got some nos delco condensers, all 8 tested at .22 mfd no leakage at 400 volts.I think replacing points and condensers is over done.I test condensers and clean up points. My ford tractor has been running on the same points and condenser for 15 years. The best condensers are marked fomoco and are oil filled, look for a spot of solder on the end of the case.I have tested old stock Wico condensers that had bad leakage at 400v.

You aren't the only one that has complained about their condensers. Couldn't keep a set of points in a irrigation mag with them. I been using some Borg Warner condensers and points or NOS Niehoff for the XH mags because they are better. Can't get them for the C mag though. A good aftermarket condenser for a Bosch MRF MJB will work in the XH too if the mounting is clipped off. Coils aren't what they use to be either.

Can't say who make's them but I orderd new point's and condenser for my 41A with Wico-C mag and they work just fine. No poor lining up of point's or anything.

Make sure you are using some spacer washers under the moving contact pivot. A thick washer and sometimes a thin washer also. Lately I have had to grind off the end of some of the rubbing blocks on C points for proper clearance.

It happens with all the other brands of points and other parts too sometimes. Their dies get worn or off and they turn out a bad batch.

Make them fit or complain and return them or find another brand.

Something else you can do is make yourself a contact alignment tool out of a small piece of tubing or drill a hole in end of shaft and then cut a slot across so it will fit over the stationary contact. Then put a T handle on the end of it somehow. Then you can easily align the contacts after installing. It's a lot better than using pliers and ruining a new set of points.

They made bad batches of XH points years ago in blue prestolite boxes and sometimes when buying out some old parts I still run across them.

34gpa,
I agree with Glenn's comments - the point alignment tool has become a necessity. Neither Standard nor Tisco points for the C have adequate quality control anymore. But they can be aligned.

The Standard points have less problem with grounding at the interface of the screw holding the movable point and the stationary point - Tisco points almost always require some modification to increase clearances.

I have used some from Tisco probabally the same jipo parts. Can't find any good points anymore all are junk from Mexico. Even the AC Delco ones I got the other day were the same Mexico junk I get at TSC.
