I'm getting ready to tackle rear axil seals on a 52G. Friends say do one wheel at a time but i believe IT manual says to remove opposite bull gear i guess for more access. I think it would be hard to remove the 2nd bull gear without the 1st axil in place to use the wedge. any advice would be deeply appreciated

I would do both at the same time. DO NOT chisel out the outer felt retainers like some instructions say to do.You may not be able to get new ones. Loosen both up at the same time and they use each other to push out.Your felts and retainers should pop right out when doing the axles. I think yours is late enough it shouldn't have any screw holding in the retainers, dig away the grease and double check first.

I have also flipped the bull gears from side to side to let them wear on the other side if they look suspect on the side that has been driveing on all these years.

You could get one gear loose, then try to wedge the other loose before removing the 1st axle. Also, if you havn't already thought of this be sure to mop out the oil in the axle housing (between the inner and outer bearings). If you don't (like I forgot to do) you'll continue to get oil leaking out the end for a while. Mike

If you can find an old tool, (looks like the barrel of a grease gun with a flexible hose), it works like a charm to extract the old grease and oil. They were used to remove the "oil" from differentials in the old days. I don't recall the proper name for the item.
