Hand start H compression

my service manual says i should have 80 psi compression. What should i expect to have with dry cylinders on a hand start H.

Jim -- The 80 PSI is for an engine in new condition. As your "H" left the factory, the new owner had every reason to believe this standard was met. Now, some 60 + years later, "a lot of water has gone under the bridge."

If your tractor still starts okay and has fair power, I think you should expect a reading of 45 PSI or better on each side. The engine will do fairly well down to 50, and once you strike 40, it probably will be difficult to hand-start. In between 40 & 50 is the "gray zone."
