I have a 48 model JD B. It starts good, but it will only run about one minute and then dies. It sounds like you have shut the fuel off. It dies slowly. There is nothing you can do to keep it running. I pulled the Carb off and it looks very clean. I have opened the pet cock to see if gas would quit running out after a minute and it does not. I have had a couple of people tell me that they think it is something electrical. What do you guys think? Thank you for the help.

Take an extra solid core copper plug wire, and cut it in half. Reconnect the halves with a piece of 1/4" ID clear Tygon tubing. Keep about a 3/8" gap in-between the original halves for the spark to jump through. Put this wire in place of the left spark plug wire, and start the engine. You will be able to see if there is an electrical problem.

Could be a bad condenser, or if battery ignition the switch. Check for spark as soon as it dies, if no spark you know you have a problem in the mag or dist which ever it has.
