I am considering the purchase of a JD 4560 powershift MFD with 8,100 hours on the tach. Dealer is asking $42,500 for the tractor. The motor was overhauled at 6,600 hours. What usually needs replacing on a tractor with this many hours? Ex. cab mounts, etc.

I have not examined the tractor yet, will be doing that next week. The salesman told me this tractor had a good home. I will be contacting the previous owner for his comments on the tractor.

Thank you for any input.

Deere had some problems with the rings on the pistons on the early serial number tractors. High oil consumption, and if the customer complained enough Mother Deere would pickup the tab for the overhaul. I overhauled a 4960 with 2500 hours on it and the same customer had another 4960 that needed done, and he did take care of his equipment. If you look around you'll see alot of them advertised that way. I myself would rather buy it overhauled. chris This customer said the tractor took a gallon a day either pulling a grain cart or heavy tillage.

First question I would ask is why was it overhauled at 6600 hours? Also the price is a little high.Low hour 7800's are around for that money.(JMHO)I run 3 4960's,all with original engines, 12-13000 hours each, and the majority of the problems I have encountered are electrical in the cab and wiring.Corrosion at connections, wiring harnesses get brittle, switches and potentiometers go bad.

MSM,I agree that 6600 hrs is low for an overhaul. It would make me wonder about other things.Sounds like a poor maintainence program. Tx Jim
