I went to get JD parts this weekend around Waterloo IA. However, enroute my truck was hit by lightning and knocked out of service. I had just bought this truck new so I'm not sure how the insurance company will handle it. I'm pretty sure it fried all of the computers, sensors, and wiring harnesses. Smoke came up through the vents and when I got out of the truck, I couldn't tell where the lightning hit. Really bizarre. Now I'm back in Tennessee and my truck is in Cedar Rapids, IA. Got home and wife was upset about truck and now is ready to get rid of the old JDs. I'm still trying to talk her out of that idea though.

happened to me once was driving a semi driving past the elevator and they think the lightning bounced off of the grain big and came through the cb antennas. fired every sensor wire on the truck all had to be replaced. the cop told me the truck needed to be moved off the road i said the truck wnot move wont start wont even spin over but "it had to be moved" i told him that he was more then welcome to push the truck wish his nhands or his car. that made him realize it was dead. good luck dont get rid of the deeres.

Several years back a local farmer had his JD 8400 struck by lightning while doing fieldwork. Computer items were all fried and it came to an immediate stop putting him into the steering wheel and leaving a skid mark in the ground under each wheel. Insurance did not question the occurance.

Glad to hear you're still here with no injuries I hope. Got to have some tractors. A guy in this area got zapped while on a motorcycle going down highway and fried his bike and he felt some tingling and stopped for a bit but bike was running so he kept going on home.
