The inner bearing on the axle is lubricated by trans/diff oil. The outer bearing by gun grease, if and when they get greased. The lip seal outside of the inner bearing is leaking oil into the final-drive housing, and it's working it's way throught the outer bearing and out the seal, which is a very simple "dust" seal that isn't designed to seal oil. Repair will require the final-drive to be removed and disassembled, and the preload on the axle bearings should be reset when this is done.

yes there is oil in there ,and probably not internal or serious.in order to replace the seal the wheel and hub will have to come off.however,if you check around the end of the axle housing, there is a seal carrier.there should be a pipe plug in the side of it.remove the plug, put in a grease zerk and pump in some heavy grease, this may slow the leak down.

If/when you remove the axle housing to replace the internal seal, check to see if the axle needs to be tightened up.Chances are the axle is loose and is the cause of the seal leaking. Its pretty common for those axles to come loose and the movement in and out causes the seal to leak. You can jack the axle up and check the end play.I forgot what the tolerance is off hand.Try the grease first though. It may work, but I doubt it will for long.
