Today worked on trouble shooting the A knock...
* Adjusted flywheel end play....still knocks
* Took clutch driver etc. out and run without still knocks.
* Checked for clearance issues "no problems".
* Wrist pins seem to have side to side play ??

Heading out to borrow a dial indicator to check main bearing clearance. With my crude equipment it shows .007~.008
Thanks for everyones suggestions.

I may be getting into this too late... but, is the knock present at all times, or only when under a load, or only when at idle...? I think that may have a bearing (no pun intended) on what is the likely culprit.

If memory serves, main bearing clearance is supposed to be .004 to .006 inches. Plastigage is the only way I know of for checking this.

I'd be curious to hear what you find out.
