I am doing some research into the old two cylinder John Deeres that were used in the modified classes with V-8 motors. I have only seen pictures of two of them but I was wondering if any of you guys have seen one up close and could tell me how they did it. I have heard several different theories but nobody that has seen or built one can give me specifics. Any info you guys can give me will be appreciated.

I saw an A with an Olds diesel engine at the Portland In show a few years back. The engine sat in between the frame rails, but you couldn't see how it was adapted to the clutch and transmission.

Thanks Dick I have seen the same thing but I am curious as to how everything is hooked up. I assume there is an automotive type rear end in place of the JD crankshaft but I am curious as to how the clutch is setup. Again i am assuming the clutch end of the shaft off the JD crank is attached to the rearend axle but is the original JD crank shaft bearing kept to hold everything true? If so how is it lubricated and do you have to worry about the clutch trying to pull the axle shaft out when you engage it?
