I replaced a broke balancer shaft (installed new bushings)after 3 hours of letting it idle the gear broke off the end of the shaft. Doesn't seam like any thing is binding. any ideas why it might have broken?

John, I have seen this happen before and the conclusion I came up with that caused this to happen was when pressing the gear on shaft the gear cocked and loaded shaft spindle causing it to crack and later fail under normal use. Whether you pressed it on or the factory the damage was done when the gear was pressed on balancer shaft. It is difficult to hold shaft perfectly vertical when pressing this gear on. DW
