We have a 1949 model A we got the tractor to start and run for a little while but when we tried to move the tractor it shot out black smoke and stopped like it couldn't handle the load of even moving. The tractor has been upgraded to a 12 volt electrical system and electronic ignition.
Any help would be appreciated.

Also might check timing. If its off a little and the carbs messed up that could do it too.

Also, if you are using Champion plugs, I would try another brand.

If it is a 1949 model A, it was not upgraded to 12 volt, they were that way from the factory.

Yup. 2-Six volt batteries in series, but today the batteries are higher capacity so you can get by with one large 12 volt unit.

It could be the carbs neelde valve n seat is all gummed n varnished up or else the float assembly isnt getting the fuel shut off at the correct bowl level and she floods (black smoke) so bad it might be wet fouling the plugs leaving that flat black colored sooty coat on them.

I would start by cheking the carbs bowl float level to be correct and if the float n needle valve assembly are all working and the chokes working and staying open TO GET RID OF THE BLACK SMOKE AND FLOODING AND PLUG FOULING then she may be okay. You may have to replace the plugs or at least clean them free of any black sooty coating.

I agree with Old. I think it hadc a carb problem, likely the needle valve n seat are gummed up and shes overfillign the bowl n black smoking. I guess you have tried to adjust the carbs top needles ?? n see if that helps or if they are set too rich???

Yes we have tried to adjust the both the idle(lowrpms)and the main(highrpm)jet adjustments but we can"t get em right.I think part of the problem is the plugs have been fouled so many times they went bad

Sounds like a carb problem, maybe running to rich since you got black smoke. Probably running rich enough that its almost flooding its self out
