Power Lift on JD A

I managed to broadcast my oats, fertilizer, etc., using a seeder yesterday, but had trouble with the "Power Lift" on my "45 A.
It worked about twice, the quit---wouldn"t go up or down.
Is there some kind of "bleeding process" (getting the air out) on these? As far as I know, it has never been used by the previous owner. I put oil in it, and it acted as if it might work (went up and down a couple of times), but with the empty seeder on it, it just stalled out. I thought these (power lift) were mechanical, rather than hydraulic (like the Power Trol). Any help would be appreciated, and thanks in advance!

might look for a power-trol to put on that tractor, my 46 A has the power trol, ALOT better, plus you can stop it anywhere its not all the way up or down. you can use a cylinder on it too. I think they are fairly easy to take off and put on, i have a phone number of a guy that might have a used power trol if you are interested, write me back and i can give you his #

45A:

The power lift is indeed hydraulic just like the Powr-Trol. When they added the ability to conTROL a remote cylinder using a power lift with an additional valve structure, they changed the name to Powr-Trol.

That said, your power lift should have pressure up only, so if you have little or no load on it, it might not come back down. Most times you need to hang on a pipe wrench to get them to fall.

MAke sure you have enough oil in it, then cycle it up and down, and that's about all the bleeding there is to do.

Short on time, hope this helps.

Frank

Thanks for the information!
That explains why the arms were lowering as I was trying to raise the seeder with the cobbled together arms I made (two real long turnbuckles).
Like I said, I did get my stuff planted, but was wondering why I couldn't get the lifting arms to go down.
Thanks again for the feedback!
