We are in the process of restoring a 1947 John Deere G that the fly wheel was removed from when we purchased it. We have bought another fly wheel but we are not sure how to realign it.
If anyone can offer any assistance I would greatly appreciate it.
Will gladly call someone who may be able to give advice on this and can provide fax number for pictures.

Thanks

Jo, to agree with and add to DW's good advice, FOR SURE, GET THE FLYWHEEL ON THE CORRECT CRANK SPLINE OR ELSE ITS VIBRATION CITY assuming the cluth drive pulley is on the correct spline.

His Left Hand Impulse timing mark at 3 o clock when the left pistons at TDC (power or exhaust) ought to get you there and IFFFFF the cam to crank and governor gear to cam are ALLLLL LL in correct time, when the left piston is at TDC and the flywheels LHI mark is at 3 ockock the female drive slot in the governor shaft end (where mag mates) PLUS the open slot in the flywheel should be flat horizonal fore n aft. Look for timing marks or dot punches on the crank n flywheel and some?? cranks n flywheel set ups have a set screw which indexes the flywheel to the correct spline but that sort of info isnt my cup o tea.

Get the flywheel to the proper run in and do a good job on the tourque requirements while youre at it, of course, and dont use old stretched flywheel bolts.

Beat wishes

I am not sure this is the prescribed method, but if you turn the crank until the left (flywheel side) piston is at TDC on the compression stroke, you can then install the flywheel with the (left hand impulse) mark on the flywheel lining up with the index mark on the 5th/6th gear cover to the rear of the tractor from the flywheel. Clear as mud? hope this helps as every "G" we save is one less we lose.
