Hi folks,

Looking for tractor in 100-125 hp range and wondering what you have to say about these two tractors. I see they were made for '73 - '77. Were there any of these years to avoid, or any improvements that make some better. Are the quad-range, powershift, and syncro range all pretty decent trans.? I know most of these tractors have pretty high hours on them, what are some things to keep an eye out for?

Thanks

I bought a 4230 last winter and I am very happy with it. The quad range is far more preferable than the syncromesh. I have read that the final drives on later 4430's were heavier. I took advice from this forum and replaced the seat with a personal posture seat from a later model tractor. Much more commfortable. The 30 series is somewhat cold blooded, so I have to use the block heater on cold days. I wish the fuel economy was better running wide open down the road hauling hay but it's not bad on the baler. Overall you will be impressed with the comfort, convenience and power.

My two cents

John
