Jim,if your inj. pump has the mechanical type aneroid linkage here's what JD sevice bulletin stated back when 4430's were new. After killing engine, with kill cable pushed in,push throttle full forward then pull back to idle. This sets rack in pump to start mode(rack moves forward easier in "warm"pump than "cold"pump). Also be sure the mechanical aneroid linkage has set itself to start mode.Tx Jim

I never saw one that would start below 40 without
being plugged in or a shot of either and ours have less than 4000 original hours. It also takes good battery's,seems like one is always weak.

Is there a destroker on the hydraulic pump? What is the voltage measured between the starter"s cast body and the starter motor"s large brass post? Measured before, during and after cranking?

I have two of them, and the best solution for the hard starting is a can of either. I inquired about rebuilding the motor or pump and most mechanics just said to go till it loses power. The only way to replace the seal on the axle is to pull the final drive. Not too hard, just block up the tractor and do one side at a time. Should do the bearings if they need it while you're in there, and do both sides, because if one's leaking, the other's probly not too far behind.
