I am looking at a 730 Diesel that will not shift to the high side (4th & 5th). Does anyone have any idea what it takes to fix this, and possibly what it may cost?

John-Do you have any problems with any other gears? I would assume the lower countershaft bearing is out, which lowers the shaft enough to keep it from sliding over into gear. Just a guess, but just went through the same thing with mine. You have to go clear down to the bottom of the trans, so be prepared for a job. Very well may not be the problem though, could be as simple as some rust on a shaft or something. If you have been using the tractor all along and haven't had any trouble, it is probably the bearing.

years ago rebuilt one of those transmissions. It costs a small fortune if you go through the transmission.

I stand corrected on the post: It is the 5th & 6th gears that can"t be shifted into.

are you clutching it when trying to move the shifter from the left side to the right side. if you are then you my have alignment problems which may require taking the top off the transmission at the shifter and may be as simple as replacing the the snap ring on the bottom of the shifter level and realigning the slides is what I would call them, dont know a more techincal name from them. Would make plans to replace the snap ring if I take lid off the transmission. probably the atwo slide
