I posted this question on the general discussion board. about my problem with water getting into the oil on my JD 404. industrial tractor. I got a couple good things to check, one being liner O rings. Is liner O ring leaks a common problem. How do you determine which liner is leaking. This motor was apart when I bought the tractor. Thanks for any help. Stan

Ididnt post earlier cause like I say I only know enough to make me dangerous,,but If you got this for a winter project and aint no hurry I would tear it clear down, shouldnt have to pull crank unless its bad, pull pan, push pistons and rods to top and out, then pull liners, put new o-rings,Ive seen guys hone the liners and polish were the o-rings go and put back, but Id go overhaul kit with inserts etc, check crank for wear, check oil pump,Oh-boy hours of fun,and when your done itll run a long time, and youll be happy you didnt take any short-cuts,,It may be good to split tractor to put in new rear main seal, my 2-cents billy
