Hey Guys:

I have a JD 4010 Diesel with an M&W kit. It appears the engine is junk (hole in block). I also have a JD 4430 engine that needs a little work. What can I do to the 4430 engine to make it naturally aspirated and run about 110 horse to farm with.

I"m imagining I need different pistons to raise the compression ratio. Is the 4020 piston kit the highest compression ratio you can get for a 404? What camshaft can I use to make her run a little better? Any cam out of a 466 or bigger? Is this beneficial for more power?

Thanks,

John

Are the M&W parts any good or are they shot?

Why do you want to put it back to natural? A 4430 is only 125hp stock, I'd just leave it. Or if you think the rest of the tractor will only handle 110, just turn the fuel back a bit. A turbocharged motor will run alot more efficiently than a natural, so you'll save some fuel. If it were me I'd be throwing an intercooler on it too.....

Yea:

I agree on the power, but it seems the 4010/4020 clutches won"t handle it very well, been there before with a previous tractor.

I see what you mean, but I'd think you'd be alot further ahead to keep the turbo and limit the fuel and it would have better efficiency. 125 is a bit much for that poor clutch, but 110 should be possible, just back the fuel limiting screw out about a half turn and it should be fine. Or, just leave the big power but never lug it down...;) That's what Kinze tells people to do with teh 855 he puts in the big 4WD's....
