2 Questions:
The splines on my clutch drive wheel and the crankshaft are pretty chewed up. I am purchasing a good used drive wheel on ebay but I dont want to tear apart the crankshaft, any suggestions?

Also on my manual it says that there is a cap screw that goes into the crankshaft, although the end of my crankshaft is threaded and there is a nut, whats up with this?

You can get your crankshaft redone it costs about $300.00 the man that did my 49 G crankshaft was Mike Williams in Clinton, Ia. To get in touch with Mike Williams call 1-563-243-3023. If you want to see the crankshaft he did for me go to my web page tab crankshaft rebuild.

I had this problem on a late model B. I was able to weld up the splines and remachine them right on the tractor. I used a die grinder which I mounted to a base. I also made a short sturdy angleable tray on which to slide the die grinder/base combination. I used a carbide cutter with a squared off shoulder and was able to recut the splines both in the tapered area and the outside diameter. Admittantly the splines didn't have the perfect machined finish they did originally. But they were good enough and the new drive disk I bought fit nice and snug. After it was back together the clutch was smooth. I used it for a long time and never did have any more trouble with that clutch drive/crank.

If the tappered splines are chewed up on the crankshaft you better plan on changing the crankshaft.if you don`t in a short time even if you do put a good drive disk on .you will have the same problem you have now.and as of the cap screw the A`s had bolt and the b`s had a nut on the the end of the crankshaft that holds the drive disk on.
