Farmerboy is right. I know someone who just converted a 4240 with the hydraulic front drive to a straight axle. Spent lots of money to do it as he had the Deere dealer do it. The system was a dog, but I imagine it would be great in a collector item. I saw one advertised in Green Magazine a few months ago. (Or was it Two Cylinder, I think I'm getting that CRC disease Cant' Remember Crap) :-)

Just 'cause it's Deere doesn't mean it's great. Those hydrostatic FWA's were not good and not popular. If you used them right, they were ok, I guess but if you used them like MFWD your hydraulic oil got so hot, it wouldn't lift your implement. It would also cook the seals out of the front wheel motors. Funny how Deere made from the 60's to the 80's. Deere didn't offer an acceptable FWA until MFWD on the 50 series tractors.

Today they bring big money just because so few of them were made and the ones that were have been taken off and replaced with a wide front. They're a collector novelty now.
