This may be old information to some of you, but here it is anyway.

From time to time I've seen questions on here about the flat JD wrenches, such as 50, 51, 52, 53.

I just ran across a parts list for JD No. 51 and 52 plows, and the 50, 52 and 53 wrenches are shown there. I have No. 52 and 53 wrenches, salvaged from Dad's barn...now I know what they came with. I think they may have been used to remove the shares for sharpening?? I know that the heads of those counter-sunk square-shoulder bolts sure did get thin after a few years of plowing.

Those wrenches were pretty generically used with various pieces of equipment. They were listed in a 1934 "John Deere Special Repairs" catalog that I have simply as "S" wrenches with the following prices:

JD50 (.10) 5/16 AND 3/8 OPENING
JD51 (.15) 3/8, 7/16, 1/2 AND 9/16 OPENING
JD52 (.15) 1/2 AND 5/8 OPENING
JD53 (.20) 5/8 AND 3/4 OPENING

You can find these wrenches listed with several different pieces of equipment like mowers, binders, etc, but may be most often associated w/ plows....heck, EVERYBODY had a plow.....

Thanks for the reply. Yep, everybody had a plow, and we had both a No. 51 (1-16") and a No. 52 (2-12"). Not sure what came with what...that was 62 years ago on the No. 51 and probably 58 years ago on the No. 52).
