Prices are pricey!!! in reply to John M, 01-13-2006 03:21:09
I hear what you are saying about J-D pricing. I decided since the generic fuel gauge sending unit wasn't working, I would spring for a genuine J-D unit -- until I found out they want $75 for it. Dipping a stick in still works just fine, thank you very much!

But just when I think all prices are ridiculous, I get a carb repair kit for a totally reasonable price. Lesson I have learned is try NAPA first, then go to J-D if that doesn't work.

Guy said he doesnt have the box handy, called him at work. But he did say when the guy behind the parts counter saw it was 90 bucks he double checked the price and it was correct so he paid it.I asked him why and he said at the time he just didnt know any better.Guess that logo on the box makes it more valuable or something.

Or something... Find out what it's for and go to an auto parts store and price one for the same application. Of course the Deere unit is likely genuine Delco, who know's what you'll get at the parts store - probably some cheap knockoff from China. And that's providing you can find someone at the parts store that knows what an external voltage regulator even IS. And he'll want to know if the tractor has A/C before he tries to look it up.
