Couple Fuel System Questions Early Styled B

Thanks in advance!

I have what appears to be a very original hand start 41 B. Couple of questions:

1) Fuel line was cut from sediment bowl to carb so I replaced it with a new one from john deere. New one was chrome and has rusted already, but the old one was copper. What would have been original?

2) Thanks to Mr. Browning's website I was able to restore the 3 way valve. I bought a new screen and cork gasket from deere. (They charged me nearly 5 dollars for the screen! Ha ha. Always good for a laugh). Now I cannot get the bowl on with the gasket even with the tightener thingy all back out. What gives? Do I have the wrong size bowl?

Joe, Until a B "Expert" gets here:

The "original" B fuel lines Ive seen and worked with were steel instead of copper, although Ive seen lots of copper (which I thought to be replacements) used. Perhaps during the early war years Deere was forced to use what was available or rationed???

On the sediment bowl, are you sure all of the old gasket material is removed out of the groove in the top housing???, as there wouldnt be room for old material PLUS a new gasket. I have the housings groove all cleaned out and I place grease on all the surfaces to help the new gasket set in.

Some of my buddies use copper gas lines and have them all shined n polished bright which looks great, but isnt original in my opinion.

I would think JD squirted green paint on those lines just like the rest of the tractor.

On that fuel bowl not sure which type you have ? Some the gasket goes up in the top part first and the screen sets down in a groove in the glass is that how you have it ?
