We are restoring a JD 110 or 112 (Not so sure). Type: T2314 Serial# 009979. When we got the mower the vaeiable speed linkage was baddly broken and billy rigged up. The variable speed parts were given to us in a box. We are not so sure how to "CORRECTLY" reinstall it. We have a big black spring that measures 1 1/4" wide and 5 1/4" long with swivel hooks on each end. This spring we are sure it is for the tractor. A smaller spring that measures 1/2" wide and 5" long we are not sure where it goes or if its the proper spring. I tried to up-load Pix's to past in here and 2 websights to upload to are not working today. I'll try later though. Thanx for any help.

The silver spring will be trashed. And is replaced with a new JD spring (#6 in diagram). The part #8 is on order. So hopefuly with more proper parts things can come togethrt alot better.

Yes we did agree that the silver spring and the drum break link might not be for this unit. they were painted green before we painted them again. Thanx again for the help!

The big black spring is the clutch spring. I beleive there is supposed to be a short strap that is held in place on a pin through the hole you show in your first picture. That would be the open hole up at the top of the green casting through which the unpainted pin passes. The open hole in the end of the un-painted pin is for turning the pin to adjust the system once assembled.

The rear end of this spring is anchored (at least on all 4 of my high backed seat 112's) to a hook that looks much like the heavy hook in your parts pic. IT passes through a hole in a stout strap back at the transxle.

The skinny spring looks like maybe it's the secondary belt's idler spring. It's maybe 3/4 inch in diameter? You show the secondary belt's idler in your last picture. That spring goes forward from the top of the arm that rises vertically between the side frame & the transaxle. The forward end of that spring goes through a hole in the rolled down flange of the top plate of the frame clear up past the gearshift if I recall correctly. The spring you show does NOT look like my secondary idler springs. Mine all look like miniatures of the big black spring with the tapered ends and floating end hooks and all. That may also be a stray part not belonging to your tractor.

Thanx Bob. The links helped alot. We already had a print out of the link of Variable speed pullies. The sheve pullies link helped the best. But no help in other ways. So I guess we are looking for a fulley assembled 110 or 112 mower that hasn't been cobbled up.

It was good to know that we have a 1967 112.

Again...Thanx for the help!

112 guy,

If no one else volunteers a photo, I have an older 110 that (I believe) has about the same variable linkage mechanism.

I could flop it on it's side, and snap a couple of photos, although I question whether the contrast and detail up under the frame would be clear enough to help much.

According to the code and serial number, you have a 1967 112.

You've got at least some parts there that don't belong.

The rod, 4TH from the left, appears to me to be part of a self-adjusting disc brake mechanism from a car or pickup, and I'm not sure about a couple of the others.

The 2 links below are to illustrations at JDPARTS that show a parts view of the variable drive system:
