Our b's have had the same Ethylene Glycol in them since the Early '60's..still in them..!! Seems that every year some more water evaporates off and I add more anti-freeze..until, now..it tests at -50 F (or lower) and they look good..the liquid is clear and green.... I drain it every several years, let it settle and pour all the clean back in..just to remove any dirty stuff that settles to the bottom of the block.. Still have to use the shutters to get it up to temp under a load, and it is bored +.180" These have had waterpumps installed because of being used in a #226 Mounted Corn Picker.. Ofcouse then, we had the shutters off because they made cleaning the silk out of the radiator impossible...!! FWIW...!! Ron..

One thing to remember when adding new antifreeze to any syphon cooled tractor is to completly mix the antifreeze with water before installing it into your tractor.(Usually a 50-50 mixture) If your tractor does not have a water pump, it might not mix by itself in the engine.

Additionally, I've heard that the new red antifreeze is hard on copper and the like so wouldn't recommend using it. We all know from years of experience that the common green type ethylene glycol antifreeze is safe to use in the oldies. It might seep through some holes that water wouldn't and it discolors paint - but it doesn't freeze!

I run a 50/50 blend and check it to make sure it is enough to protect me where I live. Usually 10 or 15 below is good enough around here in middle Tennessee.
