Looking for pistons for my 1936 JD D. Will most likely take .045 or .090 over to get the job done. None of the suppliers have aluminum pistons available. What do you all think about replacing with used cast iron pistons, if I can find a good pair?

Seems one or two JD D piston makers in the US. Standard answer, including Hinrichs, is, "We don't know when the JD D pistons will be available." Too bad, because I am suffering from a couple slugged pistons in my 36 D. They had secured them with two countersunk bolts, one of which came undone and did considerable damage to #1 piston and the rocker tower. Made me want to cry when I saw what had happened. Had no idea the engine has been messed with when I bought it last Sep. Thanks for the info.

Used cast pistons will work fine if in good shape. Check the ring lands for wear and if worn too much can get OS width rings and turn grooves all the same. Look for good fitting pins also and then they can be fitted to your rods or put in new bushings to fit. Could always sleeve back to standard but getting hard to find a machine shop that can handle a D block and do the job right. You guys got me all curious now why everyone advertises those pistons but doesn't stock them. I'm going to have to call Monday just to see.
For oversize rings try these:
