Looked at a late styled A today that has a crankcase ventilator pump. It has excessive blow by out of the belt pully. We unhooked the line from the ventilator pump an found it to have suction. Shouldn't there be pressure coming out of this line? Is it possibe to install the pump backward and pressurize the crankcase instead of ventilating it? Thanks for your help.

I can't say that I ever really (tested) one there ? I'd have to do more research but I kinda thought maybe they sucked the air in there from the pipe at the air cleaner and pushed it out the valve cover pipe into the intake ahead of the carb.

I believe they pulled fresh filtered air out of the top casting of the air cleaner and pushed that fresh air into the crankcase through the governor housing. The stale vapor laden air exited the crank case via the tube from the valve cover. This way the dirty air was pumped into the air stream ahead of the carb destined to be burned but DOWN STREAM from the fresh air inlet to the ventilator pump and the ventilator pump never pumped dirty air.

The positive pressure in the crankcase was very low but still it was positive and prevented dirt and dust from entering the crankcase. The pulley became the primary vent when the valve cover tube plugged or when blowby became extreme.
